Editor's Note: We are discontinuing the video and audio versions of the Daily Inspiration, due to lack of interest. While people come to InnerSelf and load over 20-thousand article pages each day, very few are listening to audio and/or viewing the videos, and preparing them is a time-consuming process. To the few who enjoyed the videos or listened to the audios, we are sorry for any disappointment this may cause, and hope that you will choose to continue to enjoy the Daily Inspiration in its written form.

InnerSelf's Daily Inspiration

February 12, 2024

The focus for today is:

Through mindfulness, I navigate life with increased insight and balance.

Today's inspiration was written by Robert Jennings:

Mindfulness meditation is a transformative practice that offers a unique approach to life's daily experiences. It focuses on our breath, bodily sensations, thoughts, and emotions.

The key is not to judge or react to these experiences but to observe them as they arise and pass. This level of observation promotes an understanding of our inner selves and a deeper connection with our thoughts and emotions.

The practice may seem simple - sitting still with closed eyes, but its implications are profound. By devoting time to quietly observing our inner world, we train our minds to remain composed and tranquil, even in inevitable chaos. A disciplined practice, even for 15 minutes daily, can yield significant benefits. Through consistent mindfulness meditation, we can navigate life with increased insight and balance, ultimately enhancing our overall well-being.

This is Marie T. Russell, co-publisher of InnerSelf.com, wishing you a day of mindful observation (today and every day)

Comment from Marie:
Mindful awareness gives us the presence of mind to not get all stressed-out by what is taking place around us. When in the presence of stress or anger, I repeat to myself silently: "Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me."  Take a deep breath and let your stress flow out through your feet and place your focus on your heart. Choose peace.

Our focus for today: Through mindfulness, I navigate life with increased insight and balance.

The Hundred Remedies of the Tao: Spiritual Wisdom for Interesting Times
by Gregory Ripley

book cover of: The Hundred Remedies of the Tao by Gregory RipleyIn modern Taoist practice, the emphasis is often on “going with the flow” (wu-wei) and not following any fixed rules of any kind. This may work well for an already enlightened Taoist Sage, but for the rest of us. As author and translator Gregory Ripley (Li Guan, ??) explains, the little-known 6th-century Taoist text called the Bai Yao Lu (Statutes of the Hundred Remedies) was created as a practical guide to what enlightened or sagely behavior looks like—and each of the 100 spiritual remedies are just as relevant today as they were when written over 1500 years ago.

Both scholarly and inspirational, this guidebook to Taoist spiritual living will help you learn to effortlessly go with the flow, deepen your meditation practice, and find the natural balance in all things.
