InnerSelf Newsletter: November 6th, 2016

Welcome... Our InnerSelf welcomes your inner self.

Once again this week the image accompanying the newsletter is of a boat. Last week the sailboat was apparently in a precarious situation, while this week the boat is securely tied to shore. Let's hope that our ship remains securely anchored as the waves of life may be turbulent this week.

In the US, we have the so long-awaited Presidential elections. And yes, we will all be happy to have all the politicking be over... And we will begin a new page in American history (or her-story). Regardless of the outcome of the elections, there will be happy voters and disappointed voters. But we will need to remember that we are all on the same boat and need to work together to be able to remain securely anchored on Planet Earth.

Our first article this week is by the publishers of InnerSelf and is a reflection on the fact that "Your Vote Chooses the World We All Will Live In". If you are an American citizen who hasn't yet voted, please read it and reflect on the consequence of your voting action or inaction. We are at a critical point in the US and planetary destiny, and we all have a role to play.

And this week we will probably be able to benefit from "Incorporating Meditation Techniques in Chaotic Daily Life". Many relationships have been rocked with the diverging paths in this election, and the meditation offered in this article will help rebalance our hearts and our attitudes. We also can learn from "How Can We Change The Thoughts We Tend to Believe?" in order to create a harmonious reality and ask ourselves "Are You Conforming to Other People's Beliefs?"

Whether or not we have children who are in sports, we can learn from "The Way of the Expansive Spirit for Young Athletes" as the Expansive Spirit is a path that can apply to all of us, especially if we find ourselves in a "us against them" scenario. We can be encouraged by progress on the planet by "Humane Business: Giving Back Is The Future" as we discover ways that businesses are serving the world by volunteerism and more.  Barry Vissell opens up to his greatest fear and lets us into his heart to experience a great love in "Facing My Worst Fear and My Greatest Vulnerability".

These are very powerful articles for a powerful time. Even if you don't live in the USA, you have been affected by the vitriol that has poured from American airwaves. All of this gives us a chance to look within and make sure that we don't participate in the hatred and the fear-mongering that takes place. We are all in the same boat... and only by cooperating, forgiving, and looking ahead will be get to a better place. Smooth sailing to all!

Wishing you enjoyable insightful reading, and of course a wonder-full, joy-full, and loving week.

Your Vote Chooses the World We All Will Live In

Yes, we know! We're all tired of hearing about the elections. However, that doesn't make it less important. It's coming to a close this Tuesday, November 8th 2016, and some people are still "on the fence". Not only do they not know who they will vote for, but they don't know if they're even going to vote.

Humane Business: Giving Back Is The Future

Written by Catherine R. Bell.

Humane Business: Giving Back Is The Future

The desire to create a more humane business often coincides with the desire to be a force for good in the world. This reflects the higher purpose we feel emerging inside us as a result of greater self-awareness. Such increased self-awareness eventually expands to include the surrounding community and the world as a whole...

The Way of the Expansive Spirit for Young Athletes

The Way of the Expansive Spirit for Young Athletes

I love how Eastern thought and Native American tradition emphasize the essential goodness in all children. The Tao calls this essential goodness the way of the expansive spirit. Our work is to guide our kids to discover this goodness within themselves...

How Can We Change The Thoughts We Tend to Believe?

Are you a person who one day asked herself (or himself): I wonder if my thoughts are accurate? I wonder if I should really believe all my thoughts without question? I wonder if my thoughts actually represent the ultimate truth about myself, about others and about life?

Facing My Worst Fear and My Greatest Vulnerability

Written by Barry Vissell.

Facing My Worst Fear and My Greatest Vulnerability

What if Joyce dies before me? This is one of my greatest vulnerabilities. Sure, I could die first. Statistically, women live longer than men. Even though we’re both healthy in the important ways, we are still seventy years old. We are now in our senior years. Death of our bodies is no longer something that can be ignored.
