InnerSelf Newsletter: February 11th, 2018

Welcome... Our InnerSelf welcomes your inner self.

This week we reflect on fear and how to be stronger than our fears. It seems that our "new and improved modern world" has brought us more things to be afraid of. We watch TV and discover numerous "reasons" to be afraid, we surf the internet and find more of the same, we hear of another person with cancer, or another shooting, or some other fearful event.

And if any of you are saying, I'm not afraid of anything, your very language proves you wrong... "I'm afraid it's going to rain today!" is a common saying which shows how "fear of the future" in ingrained in us and in our society.

To start off our reflection on fear on a lighter note (though just as important), we bring you "Tips for Creating Awesome Relationships and Great Valentine Gifts that Don't Cost a Cent" to take the fear out of Valentine's Day gift-giving, and fill it with love.

Now, of course, some fears are natural and even necessary, however, we've taken this to the extreme (in some cases). It is extremely important that we take time to "Shed Light On Fear and See It For What It Really Is". If you are prone to fearful reactions, you may benefit from "Dealing with Fear: A Meditation Journey with Sekhmet" as well as with this article, "Overcoming Fear: Physical, Emotional, Intellectual, or Spiritual". Learning to deal with uncertainty is a survival mechanism for these times.

Scroll down for more featured articles on fear and dealing with life crises, as well as numerous additional articles on a variety of topics.

Wishing you enjoyable insightful reading, and of course a wonder-full, joy-full, and loving week.

Learning Our Lessons Through Crisis and Life Stories

Sad but true, we all grow out of the soil of pain....The crises that arise in our lives are here to serve us, not to hurt us. As counterintuitive as this sounds, crisis is nothing more than your own soul trying to get your attention, to show you your path. The soul uses pain, crisis, and trauma to wake us up.

A Life Of Uncertainty: Living With Cancer For Thirteen Years

Someone asked me what living with cancer for thirteen years is like, never knowing whether the disease will remain under control. I said, “It’s like being hurled into a classic 1950s horror movie where you know terrible things will happen but you don’t know when they will occur.”

Shedding Light On Fear and Seeing It For What It Really Is

How do you shed light on fear, and see it for what it really is? You question it by asking, “Says who?” Like a boogieman in your mind, you need to stand up to it and let it know who’s in control and the boss of your thoughts. It’s either you or your fear-based thought. It’s important to decide who’s really in charge of your thinking.
