InnerSelf Newsletter: July 8th, 2018

Welcome... Our InnerSelf welcomes your inner self.

While looking at the stones in the picture above, we may question whether some are getting ready to fall or if they simply appear interestingly in (or out of) balance. It is said that the Chinese have an expression that is both a blessing and a curse: "May you live in interesting times". This week we look at how to traverse the "interesting" or "precariously balanced" times in our lives.

An event can be seen as either a blessing or a curse, depending on its repercussions on you and those you love (and the planet in its entirety). Barbara Berger helps us look at both sides of this dilemma in "Is It Good or Bad? Are You Happy or Unhappy?". And Kavitha Chinnaiyan, MD provides us with the tools to navigate through our current life situations with ease and inner peace in "Cultivating Inner Silence Through The Practice Of Daily Meditation".

Jalaja Bonheim, in "Making Space for Individual and Collective Grief", suggests: "If you are strongly affected by the state of our world, you must find a way to accept, channel and make peace with your feelings. Otherwise, you are liable to get sick, for unconscious emotional pain often expresses itself in the form of physical ailments."

Martin Brofman addresses the challenge of a medical diagnosis in "You’ve Got Some Kind Of Symptom: Now What?". And Elsa Lottor helps us to get healthy, and remain healthy, in "How to Treat Inflammation and Its Direct Link To Disease".

And as usual, we have numerous additional articles covering numerous topics from stress to frogs... to democracy and ancient civilizations... Scroll down below for the information and links to the new articles.

Wishing you insightful reading, and of course a wonder-full, joy-full, and loving week.

Making Space for Individual and Collective Grief

Written by Jalaja Bonheim, PhD.

Making Space for Individual and Collective Grief

Grief is an important emotion. Not an easy one, but it’s how we digest the experience of loss and transform it into something that has depth and meaning. People who have owned and transformed their grief are like heavy boulders that can stand unmoved in the midst of hurricanes, providing shelter and refuge to others.

Is It Good or Bad? Are You Happy or Unhappy?

Written by Barbara Berger

Is It Good or Bad? Are You Happy or Unhappy?

An emotion is something we attach to an event and it arises as a result of our interpretation of the event. This emotion is not inherent in the event but is always the result of our opinion or interpretation of what’s happening.

Cultivating Inner Silence Through The Practice Of Daily Meditation

Written by Kavitha Chinnaiyan, MD

Cultivating Inner Silence Through Daily Meditation

Despite the seeming explosion of meditation in modern culture, there seems to be a lot of confusion about what it is, being used interchangeably for thinking, daydreaming or contemplating on a particular issue. With lack of a cohesive understanding about what meditation is, it can naturally lead to confusion about how to practice it and what it is really supposed to do.
